The behemoth known as Avatar

Avatar - Movie Poster - 13 x 20
Well there is no denying it! All hail James Cameron, King of the Cinema Universe. Avatar keeps crushing US and global competition and breaking box office records in its scorching path to the top. Naysayers are dumbfounded. Some are still puzzled about this phenomenal success and various theories for Avatar's astounding success include the high 3D ticket prices and weak competition. I think the answer is simple.. james cameron managed to marry technology and art in a simplistic but drawing manner.. and those poo-pooing the storyline... well audiences love it. One thing commentators tend to forget is people go to movies for escapism and Pandora is just the perfect alternate reality for many people.. It does not hurt also that the N'avi are underdogs eerily similar to African, Asian, Latin Americans who were oppressed and massaccred in colonial and slavery times.. Fans have had a tsuhelu with Avatar and do not look like they are letting go anything soon..

Africa Cup of Nations 2010

Despite a tragic attack on the Togo team, the Africa Cup of Nations first match was unexpectedly exciting. Angola, the hosts had all about locked the match--alas only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory- in the last 16 mins! How is it possible for a team to go 4-0 up and then concede 4 goals in the dying minutes of the match to settle for a draw.. Angolan fans were stunned and the draw was surely a defeat IMHO! Congrats to Mali for not giving up and coolly mounting a surprising but historical comeback. Yeah folks that one is for the history books!
